Does Substance Abuse Accelerate a Bipolar Persons Mood Swings?
If a person were bipolar, and they abused substances like alcohol or marijuana or cocaine, would they experience mood swings while they were high, because i am not bipolar but i might have some traits, and i experience very bad swings in high’s, like calm, to sad, to angry, to happy, to crying, to getting aggresive, and sexual. I know this isn’t normal, even with substance abuse. So does bipolar disorder affect the abuser’s high, by the mood swings?

Your mood swings would be hell. They would be even more all over the place than they are now. It would consist more of anger and sexual arousal. But if you did get sad, it could turn into suicidally. I wouldn’t do drugs or drink.
and then some. substance abuse can even kick in such problems where they did not exist. also many people find that when relieved of their addiction disease the symptoms of other problems are removed or lessened
No. A person who is Bipolar will have their mood swings independent of any drug use. There is not a form of Bipolar that is only active when a person is high. However, people react different to drugs/alcohol….. some people drink and get mean, some get happy, some get sloppy….. BTW, yes it is very common to have hightened emotional responses when high………. it is very common to be more aggressive and/or sexual when high….. drugs alter the chemicals in the brain….. what were you thinking should happen when you got high?
If you are Bipolar you are bipolar all the time… not just when high. You’re not bipolar… this is just how you are when you are high….. if you don’t like it then stop getting high.
Oh wait! I get it….. you are looking for an alternate reason for your behavior… that way if it’s not the drugs you have no reason to stop using and you have a convenient excuse for your behavior. Quit using.
Yes it does and drastically. Some people are bipolar just because their neurotransmitters in their brain have been re routed because of these harmful and ILLEGAL drugs.
I would stop taking illegal drugs, or go to a center for rehab, take control of your life and change it before you hurt yourself or even more important someone else. I am sure you have emotionally hurt many in your family and you have to realize that they love you and just want you to get better and you dont have to be on a guilt trip.
Just seek help and change.
good luck,
