As an alkaloid, cocaine is a topical anesthetic and stimulant. So just compare with others stimulant alkaloids like caffeine, nicotine and the local anesthetics (Synthetic local anesthetics are structurally related to cocaine) such as Benzocaine (Anbesol by Pfizer), Chloroprocaine (Nesacaine), etc.
