Hi, my friend has been doing ecstasy combined with other drugs, (possible cocaine,weed,other pills). A couple nights ago he just started running super fast while he was not on anything and then collapsed and almost passed out. Also last night, he started screaming randomly and almost passed out and had to get an IV and 3 adrenaline shots. Is this because of the drugs? what is happening? He is now in rehab but he has been clean for a while but these seem like long term effects. Are they? Professional answers are appreciated as well as non professional I just need to know what is wrong with him…

it could be a result of withdrawal, depending on how long he has been abusing the substances. in fact, that seems most likely at this point, but i don’t know all the details about your friend. Ecstasy can do alarming damage to the brain, so it is possible that Ecstasy is the root problem. I’m not aware at this time if the brain can recover from the abuse its taken, but it is very possible to overcome addiction. be there and be supportive for your friend.

He might have a previously undiagnosed mental illness. Sometimes drug use will cause a latent mental illness to become active. The illness is not caused by the drugs, but the symptoms become activated by it.
