Is Crack Cocaine Physically Addicting?
Question by marilyn d: Is crack cocaine physically addicting?
I’ve heard of “crack addicted” babies born of mothers who used the drug. But I thought cocaine did not cause an actual physical addiction. I didn’t think abruptly stopping it’s use would cause physical withdrawel. I know exhaustion results when the drug is abruptly withdrawn following many days/nights of continuous use, but I’m confused about babies born “addicted”. Someone set me straight, please.
The person who suggested google was right. It is not physically addictive, does not produce acute withdrawel. Symptoms of abrupt cessation are opposite those produced by the drug. Abruptly stopping cocaine results in behaviors: lethargy, increased appetite, and depression, to name a few. But no withdrawel occurs. Addiction is strictly psychological!!

Carla Bruni Helps Free Two French Women Accused of Cocaine Trafficking (New Kerala)
London, Dec 30 : France’s First Lady Carla Bruni is said to have helped free two French women jailed in the Dominican Republic for cocaine trafficking.
Alain Joyandet, the French Secretary of State for Co-operation, read out a letter from Bruni, 42, as the two women, Celine Faye, 20, and Sarah Zaknoun, 19, accompanied him.
The two had been sentenced to 8-years in prison, but ended up serving just 18 months after they wrote to Bruni asserting their innocence and asking for help.
“It’s thanks to her that we are here,” Times Online quoted Faye as saying.
The women, who were pardoned by the Dominican President, had been sentenced to jail last year after 6kg of cocaine was found in their luggage.

Driver Arrested With Passenger for Cocaine: ‘I Just Drove Him Around as He Dealt’ (Northwest Florida Daily News)
MARY ESTHER – A 20-year-old man was arrested after deputies pulled him over and saw large amounts of cocaine in his back seat, according to an Okaloosa County Sheriff’s Office arrest report.
A deputy saw a black PT Cruiser pull into the drive thru at Yard Birds around 6:30 p.m. Dec. 10, the report said. He recognized the passenger, Roscoe Jordan, and discovered the man had two active warrants: one for felony narcotics and one for domestic battery.
As deputies approached the car, Jordan made “furtive movements towards the backseat and refused to show his hands,” the report said. A deputy saw large amounts of white powder and rock cocaine in plain view on the back seat and rear floorboard. All the cocaine in the car added up to about 65 grams.

Drug Prices Down by Half – and Dropping
According to the International Narcotics Control Board (INCB), the street price of cocaine in Britain is half the price it was 10 years ago. Official figures released last week showed a line of cocaine now costs as little as £1 – about $1.50 US. That’s cheaper than a beer.
The boom in production has saturated global markets. In the last 10 years the world supply of opium and heroin has doubled from 4,000 to 8,000 tons. Drug traffickers have not only saturated Britain, the US, Russia, and most of Western Europe – they are now spreading throughout Africa.
The head of the UN drugs agency, Antonio Maria Costa said huge amounts of heroin and cocaine were being traded by “terrorists and anti-government forces” to fund their operations. Cocaine trafficking has turned the West African town of Guinea Bissau into Africa’s first narco-state, and a lucrative source of cash for Hezbollah and al Qaida as well as South American drug cartels.
