Treatment for Anhedonia?

Question by K.C.: Treatment for anhedonia?
I’ve already asked a ton of questions on this, but anyways…

How would apathy/indifference be treated? Would therapy work, and if so, how can a therapist get the individual to experience emotions again? Or would the individual need medication?

I am very apathetic, and indifferent. I want to change, but not enough to actually take action. I was thinking of seeing a psychologist about this, but I don’t know. I don’t want to go through therapy; I don’t see how it would really help with loss of pleasure. I have all of the apathy-related depression symptoms, but for no real reason, or so it seems. Nothing traumatic has happened to me.
I’ve never checked out my diet too much, however I have given myself a bit of exercise, and it doesn’t seem to really help. Thanks for the answers.

Anhedonia is a Markedly diminished interest or pleasure in almost all activities nearly every day. It is a symtom of depression. You wouldn’t treat the anhedonia, but the depression and it’s causes.

If there are no events that are causing it, maybe you should examine your diet and adopt an exercise regimen. Also make sure you’re getting enough sleep and sunlight.

Mainly drugs that work on increasing dopamine function or amount will help! The problems with things like Ritalin, Dexedrine, Adderall is that they are neurotoxic in the long run. Yes they will eliminate anhedonia 100% if used for a short period of time but if used for long period will make the anhedonia worse off. One drugs that looked promising in anhedonia was Mirapex (pramipexole). It’s a potent dopamine receptor agonist used for restless legs syndrome, mainly parkinsons, sexual dysfunction from ssri’s and also now being found effective in depression and even better results in bipolar depression. I take it with my lithium and it takes away the anhedonia that lithium gives me and helps with mood alot! it’s a great antidepressant, and will help your anhedonia alot! It’s also not toxic and was proven to protect the brain and dopamine receptors. It’s easy to get just go ask your doctor for it. It’s a great drug I find it put pleasure back in my life, I can smile now and mean it.
