What Are Symptoms of a “Crack Baby” as It Gets Older?

Question by Lori Simmons: What are symptoms of a “crack baby” as it gets older?
im mostly questioning how the person would be around the age of 17. What kind of health defects may they have, or be in high risk of?

also, what about while the person is in elementary or middle school?

reasoning for this question being, that the main character of my story will probably be a “crack baby”

There might not be any symptoms right away. But often the birth weight is below normal. The baby is irritable and cries a lot. There may be birth defects such as an enlarged head or skull, brain, heart, eye, or face abnormalities, or problems with the digestive system or with the bladder or urinary system. The baby may be born addicted.

Crack children often have difficulties in school. There are often behavioral issues. They have learning problems, and usually have trouble making friends. They can be impulsive and hyperactive, be quick to anger, and have problems with balance and coordination.

As adults they are at higher risk for addiction themselves. The problems of childhood follow them into adulthood. They are more likely to be in trouble with the law. They may have mental health issues such as depression, anger issues, easily frustrated. However, with that said, it is also quite possible that they can grow up to lead happy and productive lives. The support they get in childhood can make a tremendous difference.
